Course Introduction
The ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Law is a 120-credit, Ofqual-regulated qualification equivalent to the first year of a UK undergraduate law degree. It’s tailored for students who aspire to pursue further legal education and build a solid academic and professional foundation within the legal field.
When paired with the ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Law, this qualification enables learners to progress directly into an LLB (Hons) Top-Up degree—the final year of a full UK law degree—at a range of respected partner universities.
Course Objectives
This diploma is designed to develop a strong foundational understanding of core legal principles while equipping learners with the ability to interpret, apply, and effectively communicate legal concepts. The programme also builds essential skills in critical thinking, analysis, and legal research. Eligibility Criteria
This course is designed for individuals aged 18 and over. Typical entry requirements include a GCE Advanced Level profile with success in two or more subjects supported by five or more GCSEs at grade C/4 or above. Applicants may also qualify with a Level 3 qualification in Law or Legal Studies, such as the ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Law, an Access to Higher Education Certificate, or equivalent international qualifications. For non-native English speakers, acceptable English language proficiency includes an IELTS score of 5.5, CEFR level B2, a Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) score of 162 or above, or a Pearson PTE Academic score between 42 and 49.
