Course Introduction
The ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Law is a 120-credit, Ofqual-regulated qualification equivalent to the second year of a UK undergraduate law degree. This diploma is tailored for learners seeking progression into higher education, especially those aiming to complete a full LLB (Hons) Top-Up degree. When combined with the ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Law, learners become eligible to apply for the final year of an undergraduate law program at various UK universities.

Study Modules
Learners must complete four core modules, each worth 30 credits. The EU Law module offers a comprehensive understanding of the EU legal system, including its institutions, law-making processes, and fundamental rights, while examining the relationship between EU and national law and the jurisdiction of the Court of Justice of the European Union. In Land Law, learners explore real property principles, including legal and equitable interests, land registration rules, and proprietary rights affecting ownership and land use in the UK. Lastly, the Law of Tort module develops learners’ understanding of tortious liability, defences, and remedies, focusing on negligence and other torts through case-based scenarios, and examines how tort law intersects with criminal law and reflects societal and political dynamics.
